Trips to the dentist are becoming less and less fearful, thanks to rapid
innovation in
dentistry. Our office is making these visits even easier and more convenient
with a new
piece of equipment that repairs damaged teeth in a single one-hour visit.
The new tool, called CEREC 3D, prepares and places natural-looking ceramic
fillings
for patients in a single office visit. No more mouths filled with “silver”
fillings. No
more messy impressions. No more monopolizing patients’ time by making them
schedule two visits.
CEREC 3D affords the dentist a 360-degree on-screen view of the restoration. The
restorations are made from a single block of high-quality, biocompatible,
anti-abrasive
and plaque-resistant ceramic material. What’s more, the ceramic matches the
color of
the patient’s own teeth!
CEREC 3D also allows me to be more conservative. Using this technology, I can
salvage more of the healthy part of the patient’s tooth when preparing the tooth
for the
new restoration. Patients are truly benefiting from technology and innovation in
the
dental office.
Key Benefits
What Is CEREC 3D?
CEREC 3D is a high-tech instrument that helps dentists restore
damaged teeth. The new “what you see is what you get” software
makes designing the perfect restoration fun and easy.
CEREC 3D stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic
Ceramics. 3D adds an exciting new dimension to the way it works.
How Does CEREC 3D Work?
First, the dentist prepares the damaged tooth by painting a thin layer
of reflective powder directly on the tooth’s surface. Using a special
camera, the dentist then takes a picture of the tooth. No need to take
a messy impression and send it to the lab. As the design of the
restoration evolves on-screen, the dentist views it with a full 360-
degree perspective.
Freeform editing in three-dimensional realism makes designing the
restoration intuitive and precise.
In the virtual world of of CEREC 3D, the dentist views, manipulates and
verifies all aspects of
restoration design for accuracy and assurance of an ideal fit. The material
block is then placed in
the milling chamber. Minutes later, milling is complete and the restoration
is ready to place.
